Alcohol Wholesale Registration Scheme (AWRS)

Alcohol Wholesale Registration Scheme (AWRS)

European Valuations is licensed to sell and market alcohol under the Alcohol Wholesale Registration Scheme (AWRS) which is a scheme managed and overseen by Her Majesty’s Customs & Excise (HMRC).

HMRC launched the scheme in 2017 to tackle alcohol fraud and being part of the scheme means European Valuations can value alcohol assets and also market, buy and sell alcohol (without penalty) to other UK registered businesses within the AWRS scheme.

This can be extremely useful in distressed or insolvency scenarios and also where a company has excess/surplus inventory.  European Valuations can act as an agent to market and sell these assets to other UK registered businesses included with the scheme.

Businesses that make up the scheme include breweries & microbreweries, wine producers & vineyards, spirit producers, wine importers, general wholesalers selling alcohol (including cash and carry businesses), specialist wine wholesalers as well as brokers, retailers, charities and auctioneers.

There are penalties (both criminal and civil) for trading without approval.
